If you’re looking for a beautiful, lush, low-maintenance lawn, we can help. Follow the Coastline Mowers’ top tips for creating a low-maintenance lawn.
Install reticulation
Watering your lawn can be tedious. Installing an automatic irrigation system is the best way to get it done without expending much energy. A sprinkler system, for instance, will take the burden off your shoulders and reduce water waste while irrigating your lawn. Check WA’s lawn watering regulations around using sprinklers and irrigation. WA has allocated watering days and times.
Get the most out of your fertiliser
Unlike traditional or liquid fertilisers, which deliver nutrients simultaneously, slow-release fertilisers provide a steady supply of essential nutrients over a longer period. Granular fertilisers are easy to apply. Spread the granules over the lawn and water in. You can even time your fertiliser application right before rain, so you don’t need to water the granules.
Plant climate-specific grass
Consider which grass grows naturally in your region, and choose something similar. Before you install the lawn, consider the location, available sunlight, maintenance requirements and whether your lawn will be fit for purpose.
Sir Walter DNA Certified is a great all-rounder with beautiful, soft, broad leaves. Great with pets and kids, it’s low maintenance and needs a minimum of 4 hours of direct light daily to thrive.
Mow your lawn for less maintenance
Did you know cutting your grass too short can lead to more, not less, maintenance? We recommend maintaining a moderate grass height, usually 1-5 cm long, to promote healthy growth and discourage weed development. Avoid cutting more than one-third of the grass height with your walker mower at a time to prevent stressing your lawn. Keep your lawns neatly edged with a lawn edger from Coastline Mowers for a professional finish.
Prevent weed growth
Preventing weeds before they become a problem by using a pre-emergent herbicide. Conduct regular lawn inspections and address any weeds promptly.
Already have weeds in your lawn? Removing them by hand is the quickest and easiest option for most lawn weed types. But if there are too many to remove by hand, use an herbicide.
